In the ever-evolving world of aesthetic medicine, few devices deliver on the promise of versatility, precision, and results quite like Candelas Nordlys®.
So, what makes the Nordlys so special? Let’s explore how it works, what it treats, and why patients are experiencing truly transformational results.
What Is the Nordlys?
Nordlys is a multi-application platform developed by Candela Medical that combines several advanced technologies into one system. Instead of relying on multiple machines for different concerns, Nordlys integrates them seamlessly, making treatments more efficient, customizable, and precise.
Key technologies include:
-
Selective Waveband Technology (SWT®) – a refined version of IPL that uses narrowband wavelengths for more targeted treatments.
-
Fractional Non-Ablative Lasers (Frax 1550 & Frax 1940) – to stimulate collagen, resurface skin, and smooth texture.
-
Nd:YAG / Infrared / Vascular Modalities – for treating deeper vascular lesions and leg veins.
-
SoftCool™ Technology – built-in cooling for enhanced comfort and safety.
With these options in one system, your provider can “mix and match” modalities in a single plan, creating a treatment protocol unique to your skin’s needs.
Why Nordlys Is Different from Traditional IPL
Classic IPL devices emit a broad spectrum of light that requires filters to block unwanted wavelengths. Nordlys takes this a step further with SWT®, (Selective Wave Technology) which narrows the light spectrum to only what’s needed for each concern.
The result?
-
Greater precision with less risk of damage.
-
The ability to treat vascular conditions that older IPL devices couldn’t handle.
-
Built-in cooling and ultra-short pulse durations for improved comfort and safety.
-
Fewer treatments needed compared to traditional approaches.
In other words, Nordlys isn’t just another IPL—it’s IPL redefined, with multi-modality capabilities that elevate results.
Conditions Nordlys Can Treat
One of the biggest strengths of Nordlys is its versatility. It addresses a wide range of skin concerns, including:
-
Pigmentation & Sun Spots – IPL targets melanin to fade unwanted brown spots.
-
Redness, Rosacea & Broken Capillaries – vascular wavelengths reduce redness and treat visible vessels.
-
Uneven Texture, Pores & Fine Lines – fractional lasers stimulate collagen for smoother, firmer skin.
-
Acne & Acne Scarring – IPL helps calm inflammation, while fractional lasers improve scar texture.
-
Unwanted Hair – IPL technology reduces hair growth by targeting follicles.
-
Deep Vascular Lesions & Leg Veins – Nd:YAG modalities reach deeper vessels that standard IPL cannot (Note: This does not include varicous veins).
This flexibility means you don’t have to bounce between multiple treatments or devices—we can create a comprehensive plan under one roof.

What to Expect as a Patient
Consultation & Skin Assessment
Your journey begins with a thorough evaluation of your skin type, concerns, and history so we can tailor the safest, most effective plan.
Treatment Day
Protective eyewear is applied, cooling gel or numbing cream may be used, and then we deliver light pulses using the appropriate handpiece(s). Most patients describe the sensation as a quick snap or gentle warmth. Treatments typically take 15–45 minutes, depending on the area.
After Treatment
Mild redness or swelling—similar to a light sunburn—may occur. Pigmented spots may darken temporarily before flaking off. Most patients resume normal activities the same day, with sun protection as the main precaution.
Results & Maintenance
Results develop gradually over days to weeks. Many concerns require a series of 3–6 sessions, with maintenance treatments every 6–12 months.
