The Nordlys™ Non-Ablative Fractional Laser (1550™ & 1940™) is the newest in skin resurfacing technology. This innovative tool is a fractional non-ablative laser treatment with SoftCool for comfort, that penetrates the skin at different depths to encourage new collagen and elastin production. Our laser is used to treat fine and deeper lines and wrinkles, scarring including acne scars, stretch marks, fading of brown spots and overall improvement in skin tone and to produce collagen synthesis within the skin. We typically suggest 3 treatments but this will vary according to your needs.

What is the Nordlys™ Non-Ablative Fractional Laser?

An Ablative Laser works by destroying the outer layer of skin, removing it so that new layers of skin can emerge. Non-ablative Fractional lasers heat up the inner layers of skin, stimulating collagen production, but they do not do any harm to the surface of your skin and only targets a “fraction” of the skin at a time, resulting in less discomfort and downtime. More specifically, this laser creates carefully targeted pockets of heat, tricking the body into believing that it has sustained an injury. The body responds by jump starting the production of collagen, which works to heal and restore the area where the skin has been “damaged.” With time, this surge of collagen will make the skin both smoother and firmer.

What kinds of skin concerns can the Nordlys™ Non-Ablative Fractional Laser treat?

SKIN RESURFACING - Fine Lines and Wrinkles: Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by promoting collagen renewal. Acne Scars: Improves the texture and appearance of acne scars. Surgical Scars: Minimizes the visibility of surgical scars for smoother skin.

SKIN TEXTURE & TONE - Rough Skin: Smooths out rough, uneven skin texture. Enlarged Pores: Reduces the size of enlarged pores for a more refined look. Pigmentation Issues: Treats uneven pigmentation, including sunspots and age spots.

SKIN TIGHTENING - Lax Skin: Tightens mildly sagging skin by stimulating collagen and elastin production.

What are the benefits?

The treatment is minimally invasive and delivers effective results with minimal damage to the surrounding tissue. Can Nordlys™ Non-Ablative Fractional Laser be used on all Fitzpatrick Skin Types?

It is safe for Fitzpatrick Skin Types 1 to 5 for resurfacing. For Benign Pigmented Lesions it is safe for Fitzpatrick Skin Type 1 to 4. For Actinic and Seborrhea Keratosis it is safe for Fitzpatrick Skin Types 1 to 3. This treatment is Health Canada Approved.

How long does it take to see results & how long do they last?

The results of treatment are both immediate and progressive. Soon after the treatment, the surface of your skin will feel softer, look brighter and show more even tone. The next 3 to 6 months will bring more improvement as the deeper layers of the skin continue to heal.

Is there any downtime? What should I expect? Is it painful?

Most patients report feeling a tingling sensation and some heat in the skin during treatment. The Nordlys non-ablative laser is built with a SoftCool air cooling system, which makes the treatment more comfortable for patients. We use a topical numbing cream prior to treatment to help with discomfort.

Yes there is downtime. For the first 3 days your skin will look red and possibly swollen. It may appear dehydrated and become dry with a sand paper like feel. To keep the skin healthy during this period, you’ll want to stay hydrated and avoid itching. Within the first week, the redness and swelling should start to subside, though your skin may still be dry and flaky, breakouts may occur, please do not pick or pop. You may see darkening of spots and sloughing off of skin, your skin might be a little pink and flaky. You can cover this with a mineral make-up or a tinted SPF. The dryness and flaking may last up to 4 weeks as cell renewal takes place and dead skin cells begin to slough off. After 4 weeks, once healed, dermaplaning is a great way to remove dead skin cells, revealing rejuvenated skin.

What is the post-care treatment and home care?

After your treatment to optimize your comfort we will apply the Cooling Biocellulose Masque which neutralizes extreme sensations and discomfort. The Light Energy Masque with a unique complex of mushroom extracts that reduces pain sensation and helps to soothe and calm inflammation or redness. You will be sent home with Pro Restore which is a concentrate that repairs the skin’s barrier, restores its condition, and helps to increase the appearance of firmness & brightness and kick-starts the recovery process. You will need to use a gentle moisturizer to keep skin hydrated. Avoidance of exfoliates, physical & chemical, and any products that contain active ingredients (AHA, BHA, Retinol) for 7 days is important.

If you go outside, you’ll want to be careful about exposing your skin to the sun. Always wear your SPF and wear a wide-brimmed hat for ultimate protection.
