What is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a cosmetic treatment in which dead skin cells and vellus hair (peach fuzz) are exfoliated (removed) with the use of a sterile surgical blade. The top layer of skin is exfoliated and any debris or dead skin cells removed from the face. The removal of the dead skin cells triggers the growth of new cells, resulting in smoother more radiant skin. While dermaplaning removes fine facial hairs, the treatment differs from shaving in terms of the tools used, the amount of skin removed, and the person performing the treatment.
What are the benefits of Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is safe for all skin types and can treat a variety of skin conditions. These include but are not limited to; improves overall tone & texture, brightens, unclogs pores that cause acne, diminish fine lines, hyperpigmentation (dark spots), reduces appearance of acne scars, smoother make up application, & allows deeper penetration of skin care products.
Does dermaplaning cause your hair to grow back darker & thicker?
No .....This is biologically impossible for hair to grow back thicker or darker because of dermaplaning. Removal of the hair changes the way the hair looks. As it grows it creates a blunted tip on the hair, making it feel a bit spikey, which appears to many people as greater thickness. The hair is only blunted for a few days before tapering off again.
Does it hurt & is there downtime?
Most patients experience no discomfort. It is minimally invasive so there is no down time.
How long does it take to see results? How long do the results last?
Immediate results leaving a smooth, dewy, glowing complexion. The effects of this treatment will depend on a patient's skin condition, lifestyle, sun exposure, skin care regimen, smoking, and other factors that are patient specific. Long term results can be maintained with consistent treatments. Treatments are recommended every 4 - 6 weeks to allow for skin cell rejuvenation.
What are the risks and side effects?
As with any exfoliating treatment, dermaplaning can result in some temporary side effects or risks of irritation, redness, dryness, superficial cuts, breakouts.
