What Is Juvéderm®? How does it Work?

Juvéderm® is a line of smooth, injectable dermal fillers made with hyaluronic acid (HA) — a naturally occurring substance in the body that helps maintain skin hydration and volume. At PUR med spa, we use Juvéderm® to restore lost volume, enhance facial contours, and smooth away lines and wrinkles for a refreshed, youthful appearance.

Juvéderm® is carefully injected beneath the skin’s surface, where the hyaluronic acid attracts and retains moisture, instantly adding volume and structure. Different formulations are used for specific areas of the face, including:

  • Cheeks – to lift and contour

  • Lips – to add volume and shape

  • Nasolabial folds – to soften smile lines

  • Jawline and chin – to enhance definition

What are the benefits of Juvederm?

Dermal fillers offer a range of benefits that make them a popular choice for facial rejuvenation. They can instantly smooth fine lines and deep wrinkles, restore youthful volume to areas like the cheeks and lips, and enhance facial contours and symmetry. As a non-surgical treatment with minimal downtime, fillers provide a convenient option for those seeking natural-looking, customizable results. Beyond the physical improvements, many clients also experience a boost in confidence and self-image, feeling refreshed and more like themselves.

When will I start seeing results?  How long will it last?

Results are visible immediately after treatment. Mild swelling may occur, but you’ll notice improved volume, smoother skin, and enhanced facial features right away.

The longevity of your results depends on the area treated and the specific Juvéderm® product used. Most fillers last 6 to 18 months, with some lasting up to 2 years with optimal treatment and maintenance.

Does is hurt? Is there downtime?

Most patients find dermal filler treatments to be very tolerable. The injections may cause a slight pinch or pressure, but Juvéderm® fillers are formulated with lidocaine, a built-in numbing agent, to enhance comfort during the procedure. We can also apply a topical numbing cream beforehand to minimize any discomfort.

There is minimal to no downtime. You can return to most daily activities right after your appointment. Mild swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection site is common but typically resolves within a few days. For best results, we recommend avoiding strenuous exercise, alcohol, and excessive sun or heat for 24–48 hours post-treatment.

What happens if I stop getting fillers?  What if I don't like having filler?

If you stop getting dermal fillers, your skin will gradually return to its natural state over time. The hyaluronic acid in fillers breaks down naturally in the body, so volume and smoothness will slowly diminish—you won’t look worse, just like your untreated self before fillers.

If you don’t like how your filler looks, the good news is that hyaluronic acid fillers like Juvéderm® are reversible. An enzyme called hyaluronidase can be injected to dissolve the filler safely and quickly. At PUR Med Spa, we always aim for natural-looking results and prioritize your comfort and satisfaction, so you’re never stuck with a look you don’t love.

What are the risks and side effects?

Dermal fillers are generally very safe when administered by trained medical professionals, but like all aesthetic treatments, they do carry some potential side effects. These may include temporary redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness, or itching at the injection site. Occasionally, mild lumps or asymmetry can occur, though these are typically temporary or easily corrected. Rare but serious risks include infection, vascular occlusion, or allergic reactions. At PUR med spa, we take every precaution to ensure your safety and satisfaction. Every treatment begins with a thorough consultation to review your medical history, discuss your goals, and ensure that fillers are the right option for you.
